  Kolkata: Next time you travel with just your cabin luggage on an Indian Airlines (Air India after merger between the two carriers)
flight, don't bother about serpentine queues at check-in desks during morning and evening rush hours. The airline has installed a self
check-in kiosk at the Kolkata airport's domestic terminal. All that a passenger has to do is punch in the PNR number mentioned in the
e-ticket. The kiosk will print out a boarding pass. The passenger is required to move directly for security check after collecting this pass.

  "By eliminating the need to stand in queues at check in counters, we are doing away with a bottleneck. Though usage is low at present,
we expect it to become popular soon," an airline official said. Currently, the airline has stationed staff to educate passengers on how
to use the kiosk .

  The self check-in facility is expected to effect major savings in time and manpower cost. The facility can be used for onward as well as
return flights within 24 hours.
Jet Airways too, plans to introduce self check-in kiosks within a month. It has already contacted Airports Authority of India for space
to install the kiosk.The facility will be available to both Jet Airways and JetLite passengers.

  “We will primarily targeting frequent travelers — both corporate executives and businessmen. The self check-in facility will benefit
them immensely, cutting down on time and queue hassles,” said an airline official.

  With 35-40% passengers travelling without check-in baggage during rush hours, the kiosks have a potential to serve nearly 2,000
passengers travelling by the two airlines daily. Both carriers said there were plans to increase the number of kiosks once usage
increased. Airport officials have welcomed the initiative and promised all cooperation.
